Activities Planned for A-State Study Day
JONESBORO — Students who will use Arkansas State University’s study day to prepare for final examinations may want to take a break to go to the dogs or spend a ‘night at the museum’ to watch exhibits come alive.
Study day at A-State is set for Tuesday, April 28, for students to take time to study for final exams that begin Wednesday, April 29, and continue through Tuesday, May 5.
The Honors College Association is hosting the third “Up All Night” event that provides a place to relax and take a break from studying for honors students.
Honors students attending the “Up All Night” event on the night before exams will enjoy a stress therapy visit from two therapy dogs and their handlers. Max, a standard poodle, will visit along with his person/handler Dr. Carole Cramer while Twinkie, an Australian shepherd, will be with person/handler Dr. Ruth Owens.
Both dogs and their handlers are registered with Pet Partners, which, according to its website, is “the nation’s largest and most prestigious nonprofit registering handlers of multiple species as volunteer teams providing animal-assisted interactions.” The dogs and their handlers had to undergo training and an evaluation to qualify for registration with Pet Partners.
A stress-therapy event will take place in the Honors Living-Learning Community Smart Classroom Building from 6-8 p.m. One dog will visit from 6-7 p.m. and the other at 7-8 p.m. For additional information, contact Owens at (870) 972-3481 or through email at rsupko@AState.edu.
In true “Night at the Museum” movie style, artifacts at A-State’s museum will spring to life from 3-6 p.m. This event is open to students and is free of charge in the west wing of Dean B. Ellis Library, 320 University Loop.
The experience is designed exclusively for A-State students as the “Night at ASU Museum.” Pre-registered students and Greek organizations create inflatable sculptures based on the museum’s permanent exhibits. When moving air is introduced, these sculptures come alive.
