Alumni, Students and Supporters Will Join Tuesday in Day of Giving

JONESBORO – The first-ever Day of Giving at Arkansas State University is slated for Tuesday, April 27, and participants are already excited about the possibilities.

The 1,909-minute campaign offers a nod to the institution’s origin 112 years ago when education advocates and community leaders came together to secure the Arkansas General Assembly’s passage of Act 100 of 1909.

That enthusiasm for the institution’s founding and early advancement has been perpetuated in various forms throughout the decades, with Day of Giving providing a special opportunity to advance A-State and the people it serves even further in the years ahead.

Once again, alumni, students and other supporters are coming together to make gifts, either to one of 24 specific areas or any other particular cause one might prefer to support. Emails from Chancellor Kelly Damphousse, outgoing Student Government Association President Rashad Kirksey, the Student Philanthropy Council, and Alumni Association Executive Director Lindsay Burnett are among the messages issued to invite participation from faculty, staff, students and alumni.

There are two ways through which one may support A-State on the Day of Giving website – AStateAlumni.org/Give2AState. The easiest way is to scroll through the 24 program description tiles that have been identified by university divisions as their priority needs. For example, faculty and staff have in recent months been very supportive of the Student Emergency Fund, Santa’s Wolves, and KASU.

Alumni might prefer their particular academic program, or a scholarship that honors a favorite professor, or an extracurricular activity that makes campus life special. Those visiting the Day of Giving website can specify whatever area is preferred, regardless of whether it is on the priority list.

To sweeten the deal, the University Advancement and Alumni Association staff have secured matching gifts that can multiply the effect of the Day of Giving commitments.

Everyone on campus has been invited to wear their scarlet and black Tuesday on Day of Giving to show support for A-State and for their specific campus areas of interest, along with using the hashtag #Give2AState on social media posts.
