Annual Soil and Water Education Conference is Set for Monday
JONESBORO – The 26th Annual Arkansas Soil and Water Education Conference and Irrigation Expo is set for Monday, Jan. 29, at First National Bank Arena, 217 Olympic Dr. on the Arkansas State University campus.
The welcome and introductions, starting at 8 a.m., will be given by conference co-chair Dr. Michele Reba, USDA-ARS Delta Water Management Research Unit, and Dr. Mickey LaTour, dean of the College of Agriculture at A-State.
After remarks by Dr. Calvin White Jr., provost and executive vice chancellor at A-State, and Dr. Deacue Fields III, vice president, University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture, the luncheon address will be presented by Janet Harris, executive director and CEO of the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute at Morrilton. Awards will be presented to outstanding students and professionals for their achievements.
Two morning sessions and a session after the luncheon will feature numerous speakers on an array of relevant topics.
A-State hosted the first Arkansas Soil and Water Education Conference in 1998. Since that time, the annual conference has provided a forum for discussion of soil and water conservation issues in the Mid-South.
The conference is targeted to agricultural industry and natural resource management leaders and advisors including educators, researchers, policymakers, agribusinesses, and university students interested in economic and environmental issues involving soil and water resources in the Delta region.
