Arkansas Biosciences Institute Annual Symposium, Oct. 7
JONESBORO – The Arkansas Biosciences Institute (ABI) at Arkansas State University is hosting the state-wide fall research symposium on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
The agenda is full of presentations on updates and highlights from just a portion of the agricultural and biomedical research that is supported with ABI funding.
Scientists from all five member institutions will attend and present, providing them with a great opportunity to meet with potential research collaborators, according to Dr. Malathi Srivatsan, assistant director of ABI at A-State.
"We would like to invite the A-State community and people from the area to the opening session from 9 until 9:30 a.m., during which a short video will be presented as part of the 10th anniversary celebration of the ABI facility at Arkansas State," she continued.
Speakers during the opening session will include Dr. Bobby McGehee, director of Arkansas Biosciences Institute; Dr. Don Bobbitt, president of the University of Arkansas System and chair of the ABI Board of Directors; and Dr. Tim Hudson, chancellor of Arkansas State University.
The opening will be held in the auditorium of the Carl R. Reng Student Union, 101 N. Caraway Road.
Several oral research presentations are scheduled for the morning, followed by a poster session and scientific vendor show in the afternoon.
ABI member institutions are Arkansas Children's Hospital, Arkansas State University, University of Arkansas-Division of Agriculture, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
ABI's focus is on agriculture and basic and clinical science research that will lead to health improvement, especially in the area of tobacco-related diseases.
The symposium is being held as part of the Arkansas Science Festival, which includes several activities during the week. Monday evening will feature "Science Café on Rocket Science: Motors, Models and Microorganisms in Space Exploration" at Godsey's Grill on Main Street in Jonesboro, starting at 6:30 p.m. Reservation requests should be directed to ArkansasScienceFestival@gmail.com.
