Arkansas Family Health Scholarship Established at A-State

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University announced today the establishment of the Arkansas Family Health Foundation Pre-Med Scholarship, created to assist full-time, upper level pre-med majors at A-State.
The scholarship was instituted following a commitment of $25,000 by Arkansas Family Health Foundation. The scholarship is part of an effort to encourage physicians to practice medicine in rural Arkansas. Dr. Steven F. Collier, CEO of ARcare and Arkansas Family Health Foundation, and Chris Gibson, vice president of ARcare, presented the initial gift as part of the commitment.
“The College of Sciences and Mathematics is truly grateful to the Arkansas Family Health Foundation for their generous gift, which will be used toward educating future physicians,” said Dr. Anne Grippo, interim dean of the College of Sciences and Mathematics. “This commitment will allow promising pre-professional students to complete their undergraduate studies. We take great pride in helping our A-State students prepare for clinical careers, and through this gift, we look forward to assisting even more future physicians who may one day practice within the ARcare family of clinics.”
Qualifications for receiving the scholarship, which is awarded annually, include a minimum overall GPA of 3.25, with priority given to students demonstrating a financial need from counties served by the ARcare family of clinics in Arkansas, Kentucky and Mississippi.
“ARcare is pleased to announce the creation of this scholarship at Arkansas State University,” said Collier. “As part of our efforts to promote and encourage physicians to practice in rural Arkansas, priority will be given to students who plan to do so.”
ARcare currently operates 34 primary clinics located in Arkansas.
Scholarship selection will be made by the Biology Scholarship Committee, the pre-professional adviser for pre-med students, and representatives of the Arkansas Family Health Foundation.
