Arkansas State Alum Receives 2013 Teacher of Year by ACTELA
JONESBORO, Ark. — Donna Dillahunty, an alumna of Arkansas State University, has been named 2013 English Teacher of the Year for middle level education by the Arkansas Council of Teachers of English and Language Arts (ACTELA).
Dillahunty, an educator in the Marion School District, teaches fifth grade reading and language classes for identified gifted and talented students. She has an educational specialist degree in reading from Arkansas State and is an Arkansas Delta Writing Project fellow. Her expertise centers on writing environments, the writing process, and teachers who are also writers.
Her award was presented at the ACTELA fall luncheon at Little Rock’s Marriott Hotel. Dillahunty spoke to over 100 teachers at the luncheon, which is held during the annual Arkansas Curriculum Conference.
ACTELA honored Dillahunty with a Barnes & Noble gift card and an engraved clock.
An affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), ACTELA is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to celebrating and improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts at all levels of education.
Since 2004, outstanding English and language arts teachers have been identified and honored annually by ACTELA. A panel of ACTELA Board members conducts judging. The panel considers the nominees’ lifelong teaching, professionalism, and service, with emphasis on recent achievements.
