Arkansas State Printing Services To Operate Campus Mail Services
JONESBORO — The Arkansas State mail center, which handles the collection and distribution of internal mail across campus, will be operated by Printing Services starting July 1 at a significant savings to the university.
The mail center services will operate seamlessly during the transition, and departments on campus will not notice a difference in the operation. Mail service will continue to operate in the U.S. Postal Service and mail center in the Carl R. Reng Student Union building.
Inter-office mail will continue to be delivered to each university department. Official university outgoing mail will go out the day it is received, provided it is deposited at the mail center in time for processing. With the purchase of new mail equipment, the mail center hopes to improve the processing and billing procedures.
Amy Brown has managed the center for the last 36 years, both for the university and for Mailroom Management Corporation, and has agreed to continue as manager. The center will also continue to employ students to help sort and deliver internal mail.
The decision to move the mail center to an on-campus operation instead of a private vendor will save the university more than $40,000.
“With shrinking public funding and growing costs, we are grateful for the initiative shown by Printing Services to find this cost savings” said Russ Hannah, associate vice chancellor for finance at Arkansas State.
“Printing Services always believes in providing the best quality products to its clients, and keeping all the possible revenue on campus and generating maximum possible revenue from off campus,” said Pradeep Mishra, Director of Printing Services.
“Many universities manage printing and mail services from the same operation, so this is a common model,” said Dr. Brad Rawlins, dean of the College of Media and Communication.
