Arkansas State SBTDC To Help Small Businesses “Navigate the Affordable Care Act”

BATESVILLE, Ark. —Area small business owners and employees can learn about new health insurance options and requirements when the Arkansas State University Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) and the Arkansas Insurance Department’s Health Connector Division present, “Informed Businesses: Navigating the Affordable Care Act,” Wednesday, Dec. 4, in Batesville.

This free training event is from 1-3 p.m. at the First Community Bank Ryder Room and made possible by co-sponsors Legacy Capital Group, an Arkansas-based corporate benefits consulting firm; the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce; First Community Bank; Citizens Bank; First National Banking Group; Liberty Bank of Arkansas; and Merchant & Planters Bank.

“We want to help Arkansas small business owners understand the law and make informed choices about health insurance coverage for themselves and their employees,” said Janet Roderick, ASBTDC state director.

The session will discuss key provisions of the federal health care law – the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 – and will highlight important aspects of the law that as they relate specifically to small businesses.

The training will highlight:
• Compliance and notification requirements in effect for employers
• New tax reporting requirements for employers
• Available tax credits, potential rebates and premium reduction programs
• Potential financial penalties for non-compliance
• SHOP, the Small Business Health Options Program
• The Arkansas Health Connector Website
