Art and Design Students Win in Ad Fed Competition
JONESBORO – Four students in the Department of Art and Design at Arkansas State University won American Advertising Awards (formerly known as ADDYs) in competition conducted by the American Advertising Federation, Northeast Arkansas. Their work now advances to the district 10 competition.
Gold ADDYs were won by Destani Abney of Jonesboro and Liu Huang of China, with Abney winning the coveted Best of Show award for a book design created in her "print and publication" class. Silver ADDYs were won by Justin Mohler of Jonesboro, Liu Huang, Adrianna Prince of Osceola and Abney with Bronze awards going to Huang and Mohler.
To advance to the next round at the district 10 judging (Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas), students winning gold or silver-level awards will be forwarded by the AAF Northeast Arkansas chapter, according to Kim Vickrey, professor of graphic design at A-State.
Vickrey noted that participating in professional advertising and design award competitions is crucial to students. It sets their resumes and portfolios above others in a competitive market when receiving acknowledgement from industry groups. The American Advertising Federation is a nationally recognized organization and she said the A-State design students consistently show well in each level of competition.
The A-State students' entries were judged by nationally recognized agencies and design professionals in markets similar to Northeast Arkansas.
