Art + Design Announces 'Print Day' and 'Second Saturday'
JONESBORO – The Department of Art + Design at Arkansas State University is offering special events as part of its ongoing community engagement activities.
Print Day, led by Shelley Gipson, will be observed Friday, Feb. 7, with an unveiling ceremony and naming of the department's Chandler and Price press at 12:30 p.m. Visitors' mementos of the occasion will be printed on the press, which is in room 108 of the Fine Arts Center (GPS: 2412 Quapaw Way).
Evan Lindquist, emeritus professor and Arkansas’ first Artist Laureate, will lead a tour of the 2020 Delta Small National Prints Exhibition at the Bradbury Art Museum, starting at 2 p.m. BAM is in Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Dr.
Second Saturday, the monthly art project series, continues on Feb. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This month’s theme is baby prints and love mementos. Interested individuals are invited to join the printmakers at Art + Design and use a baby’s footprint to create a stamp, or stamp two hands together to create a keepsake. Another option is a wish card with a lipstick print.
Second Saturday activities will be in room 107 in the Fine Arts Center. Admission is free, and alumni are especially welcomed, according to Dr. Temma Balducci, professor of art history and department chair.
