ASBTDC Recognized for Helping Small Business Achieve Success
JONESBORO — An Arkansas-based business set to bring in revenue of $1 million credits the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center (ASBTDC) at Arkansas State University for its success in a major publication.
A thriving business, Medex Waste in Osceola, is chronicled in the Huffington Post with owners Shane and Melissa Nichols attributing the growth of their business to the free help received from ASBTDC. Medex Waste is fully registered and permitted to dispose of medical and clinical waste. The story was originally written by Gerri Detweiler for AllBusiness.com and recently picked up by Huffington Post.
Shane Nichols is quoted, saying, “Without them (ASBTDC) there to answer questions and to lead us in the right direction, it would have taken us a lot longer and cost us a lot more money.”
The ASBTDC at Arkansas State University is a campus-based economic development program that assists entrepreneurs. The program is a part of A-State’s College of Business and works with new and existing for-profit businesses in 16 counties in Northeast and North central Arkansas.
Consultants provide one-on-one confidential consulting at no charge. Also, they make research and industry information available to help small business owners develop strong business and marketing plans through seminars that cover a variety of topics.
“ASBTDC business consultant Robert Bahn worked closely with Shane in nearly all areas of the business operation,” center director Laura Miller said in the article. “In addition to providing industry data and market research, Bahn has served as a sounding board and information source for the growing business.”
Also providing advice to the Nichols was a group of A-State students working toward earning Master of Business Administration degrees who developed a five-year strategic plan as a class project.
