ASU alum Chuck LaMendola returns to campus to kick off 2012 RTV Professional-in-Residence Series
JONESBORO, AR – Charles “Chuck” LaMendola, assistant professor of Professional Practice at Texas Christian University’s (TCU) Department of Film-Television-Digital Media/Sports Broadcasting Department, will open the 2012 Arkansas State Radio/Television Professional-in-Residence Series, Sept. 17-18.
While on campus, LaMendola will speak to various radio and television classes and have the opportunity to visit with students.
LaMendola has been instrumental in developing the sports broadcasting major and has served as the voice of TCU baseball for 16-years. Over the past five years, TCU sports broadcasting students have produced more than 120 sporting events that have aired on the Mountain Television Network. Starting in fall 2012, the student-produced broadcasts moved to Fox Sports Southwest with LaMendola providing the play-by-play for men’s and women’s basketball, soccer, volleyball, baseball and football.
He received his bachelor of science degree in Radio-Television from ASU in 1981. Upon graduation, he worked on films for the PBS series Great Performances before landing a full-time job as in-house producer and studio supervisor for Young & Rubicam, Inc. on Madison Avenue in New York. While at Y&R he produced test commercials, corporate videos, and other video projects for clients such as Heinz, Lincoln-Mercury, American Home Foods, Dr Pepper, Cadberry-Schweps, Procter and Gamble, Colgate-Palmolive, and many more fortune 500 companies.
In 1987, LaMendola returned to ASU to pursue his master’s degree in Mass Communication. After graduating in May of 1988, he went to work at the communications department at Memphis State University (now University of Memphis), producing radio and television promotional material for the university.
In 1990, Young & Rubicam hired him back to head up a new division called “Academic Impressions” in their Rochester, New York office. The division closed in the fall of 1992. After leaving Young & Rubicam, he was hired by the University of Rhode Island as assistant director of Electronic Media where he was responsible for the promotion of the newly launched capital campaign in January of 1993 and was moved to the position of assistant athletic director for Sports Communication.
LaMendola is a nine-time Telly Award winner for writing and directing. His short narrative film “Il Mio Viaggio Italia,” shot on location in Italy, won the prestigious Cine’ Golden Eagle in 2007 for writing and direction. He has also won a number of ADDY (American Advertising Federation awards) and Broadcast Education Awards (BEA) for his commercials for TCU Athletics.
A member of the Sports Video Group and University Film and Video Association, LaMendola has also served on the judging committee for Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Sports Emmy Awards.
