ASU Board Approves Faculty Promotions and Tenure
JONESBORO – Twenty-one faculty members at Arkansas State University have been promoted in academic rank and 19 have attained tenure, announced Dr. Lynita Cooksey, provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research.
The ASU Board of Trustees today approved recommendations from the Promotion, Retention and Tenure Committee and university administration. The actions are effective with the beginning of the 2018-19 academic year.
Faculty who were promoted to professor and their academic area are Steve Bounds, educational leadership; Sharon J. Davis, counseling; Shelley Gipson, art; and Xiankui Hu, finance.
Faculty who were promoted to associate professor are listed with their academic area, and tenure designation if applicable:
Claire Abernathy, theatre, tenure; Rejoice Addae, social work, tenure; Than J. Boves, wildlife ecology, tenure; Michael Bowman, media, tenure; J. Justin Castro, history, tenure; Jacob N. Caton, philosophy, tenure; Kristi Murray Costello, English, tenure; Kimberley Davis, special education, tenure; Joy Good, communication disorders, tenure; Anahita Izadyar, chemistry, tenure; Mark A. McJunkin, teacher education; Michele Merritt, philosophy, tenure; Jonathan Merten, chemistry, tenure; Vicent Moreno, Spanish, tenure; Christopher S. Peters, psychology; Cristy Phillips, physical therapy, tenure; and Susan Whiteland, art education, tenure.
Other faculty who attained tenure were: Zahid Hossain, civil engineering; Rajesh Sharma, renewable energy technology; Pam Towery, nutritional science; and Amber Wooten, diagnostic medical sonography.
