JONESBORO, Ark. — “Leadership and Service” are the topics that will be discussed at a seminar presented by the Continuing Education and Community Outreach (CECO) program at Arkansas State University, Friday, July 19. The seminar is at the Delta Center for Economic Development, 319 University Loop West, on the ASU campus. The agenda gets underway at 10 a.m. with a preview presented by Dr. Beverly Gilbert, CECO dean.
Admission is free of charge. An optional lunch is available for $15 and may be confirmed by registering online at www.astate.edu/ceco or calling (870) 972-3052.
Along with Dr. Gilbert, eight speakers who are experts in the fields of leadership and service will address the group of attendees including Dr. Shane Hunt, associate professor of marketing at ASU. Dr. Hunt will speak on “ASU’s Focus on Public Service.” James (Skip) Rutherford, dean at the Clinton School of Public Service in Little Rock, speaks at 10:35 a.m.
Local banker and Jonesboro community leader Ed Way of Liberty Bank is next with “Leadership in Business and Community” and “Leadership Jonesboro Projects” at 11:15 a.m., followed by luncheon speaker Skip Mooney, Jr. and “Out of the Dark” at 11:45 a.m.
Dr. Hunt will lead discussions with lunch groups at 12:15 p.m. Leigh Anne Rainey of the Jonesboro School District follows with “The Role of Community and Service in the Academies,” at 12:40 p.m., while Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin will discuss “Leadership and Service in City Government” at 1:10 p.m. KAIT-TV general manager Tracey Rogers’ topic is “Growth of a Community" at 1:50 p.m.
Dr. Gilbert and Dr. Hunt will conclude the event with discussion of ideas and a challenge to lead.
