ASU Museum Welcome Participants in TinkerFest, June 9
JONESBORO – Arkansas State University Museum is once again hosting TinkerFest Saturday, June 9. The public is invited to learn more and participate during the 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. event at the museum, which is adjacent to the Dean B. Ellis Library. Admission is free.
"This event serves as a fun, excellent opportunity for A-State and New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine representatives to help introduce regional youth to A-State as a future choice for higher education in STEAM careers," according to Jill Kary, curator of education. Most of the tinkering experiences will be led by A-State and NYIT faculty, staff and students. The STEAM acronym refers to programs in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.
"Imagine what fun it will be to engage in a giant Frankenstein 'Operation Game' led by Dr. Andy Grass of NYIT, or to be given a real engineering challenge by A-State engineering majors Nazmul Hassan and Kazi Tamzidul Islam," she added.
In the midst of a festival atmosphere, TinkerFest visitors will take things apart, paint with spices, shoot paper rockets into the air, and guide the path of a pretend Mars rover. More than 1,000 people attended TinkerFest in 2017.
TinkerFest is sponsored in part by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation and in part by a grant from the Carl B. and Florence E. King Foundation.
