ASU Theatre Announces Production and Cast for ‘Tartuffe’
JONESBORO – Arkansas State University Theatre is announcing the cast of the April production of “Tartuffe,” a French comedy by Jean Baptiste Moliere and translated by Richard Wilbur.
“Tartuffe” will be performed at the Fowler Center Friday and Saturday, April 18-19, and Monday through Wednesday, April 21-23, at 7:30 p.m. A “meet the company” dessert reception will follow the Friday, April 18, opening night performance.
The ASU Theatre’s production of “Tartuffe” is under the stage direction of Tim Bohn, assistant professor of theatre.
“ ‘Tartuffe’ is a biting comedy about religious hypocrisy, the foolishness of a wealthy man, and the torrential nature of love,” Bohn explained. “Written in the 17th century by Moliere, this play has been artfully translated by Richard Wilbur. It takes hilarious jabs at institutions and characters that we still contend with in our modern lives. It’s funny, smart, thought-provoking, and a little naughty -- it’s sure to be a fun night of theatre!”
Scenic and technical design will be provided by Jeff McLaughlin, assistant professor of theatre. Claire Abernathy, assistant professor of theatre, will serve as costume designer, Jacob George, a sophomore theatre major from El Dorado, will provide sound design, and Cody Campbell, a senior theatre major from Jonesboro, will provide the lighting design. Stage manager will be Ashley Pratt, a junior theatre major from El Dorado.
The cast includes Brooke Thomas, a sophomore theatre major from Jonesboro, as Pernelle; Jordan Phillips, a senior theatre major from El Dorado, as Orgon; Charmaine Foster, a junior theatre major from Maumelle, as Elmire; Jeremy Smith, a sophomore theatre major from Dumas, as Damis; Sarah Ring, a junior theatre major from Cabot, as Mariane; Justin Almager, a freshman theatre major from El Dorado, as Valere; Clint Stevens, a junior theatre major from Huntsville, as Cleante.
Other cast members are Paul Coulter, a junior theatre major from Cordova, Tenn., as Tartuffe; Jaelyn Epps, a sophomore theatre major from Little Rock, as Dorine; Tyler Gillespie, a freshman theatre major from Dumas, as Loyal; Dru Ergle, a junior theatre major from Jonesboro, as Officer; Payton Overturf, a junior theatre major from Cabot, as Flipote; Josh Donner, a junior theatre major from Mountain Home, as Deputy; and Luis Chavez, a junior theatre major from Jonesboro, as Deputy.
Tickets may be purchased for reserved seating in advance at the Central Box Office in the Convocation Center or by calling 972-ASU1 (2781). Tickets are also available online at tickets.astate.edu. Reserved seating tickets (if available) may be purchased at the door on the evening of the performance. Ticket prices are $10 ($8 in advance). Advanced reservations are highly recommended.
Children under six years old are not admitted to ASU Theatre. Theatre patrons are asked to arrive early; latecomers will not be seated until intermission.
