ASU Theatre announces upcoming production of Boeing Boeing,' Nov. 9-10, 12-14
JONESBORO – The Arkansas State University Theatre has announced the cast and upcoming production of “Boeing Boeing,” a comic farce by Marc Camoletti.
“Boeing Boeing” will be presented at Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Dr., Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9-10, and Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 12-14, at 7:30 p.m. each night. A “meet the company” dessert reception will follow the opening night performance on Friday, Nov. 9.
This 1960’s French farce, adapted for the English-speaking stage, features self-styled Parisian lothario Bernard, who has French, German and American fiancées. Each is a beautiful airline hostess with frequent “layovers.” He keeps “one up, one down and one pending” until unexpected schedule changes bring all three to Paris and Bernard’s apartment at the same time, according to ASU Theatre.
In a review, the New York Times wrote, “This latest edition of a play named for an aircraft soars right out of its time zone and into some unpolluted stratosphere of classic physical comedy.”
The ASU Theatre’s production of “Boeing Boeing” is under the stage direction of Molly Simpson, professor of theatre.
“Students of the ASU Theatre have the unique opportunity to showcase their skills six times per year in fully realized stage productions,” Simpson said. “Whether acting, assistant directing, stage managing or designing, students learn discipline, collaboration and creative skills that prepare them for the world of professional theatre, graduate school, or other professions that require the knowledge gained through the study of theatre.”
Jeff McLaughlin, assistant professor of theatre, is in charge of scenic and lighting design. Hunter Moody, a senior theatre major from Pocahontas, is the sound designer.
Samantha Cole, a senior theatre major from Jonesboro, serves as costume designer, while Paul Cootes, a junior theatre major from Hornersville, Mo., is stage manager.
The cast includes Marina Pearson, a sophomore theatre major from Conway, as Gabriella; Sarah Ring, a sophomore theatre major from Cabot, as Gloria; Tyler Garstka, a senior theatre major from Cabot, as Bernard; Alaina Rene Kizer, a freshman theatre major from Conway, as Gretchen; Dru Ergle, a sophomore theatre major from Jonesboro, as Berthe; and Clint Stevens, a sophomore theatre major from Huntsville, as Robert.
Tickets may be purchased for reserved seating in advance at the ASU Central Box Office in the Convocation Center or by calling 972-ASU1. Tickets are also available online at tickets.astate.edu. Ticket prices are $10 ($8 in advance).
Reserved seating tickets (if available) may be purchased at the door on the evening of the performance. Advanced reservations are highly recommended.
Children under six years old are not admitted to The ASU Theatre. Patrons are encouraged to arrive early, because latecomers will not be seated until intermission.
