02/26/2013

JONESBORO, Ark. — Individual students and teams in grades 6-12 will be eligible to participate in the Northeast Arkansas Regional Science Fair (NEARSF) Friday, March 8, at Arkansas State University. The fair will be held in Centennial Hall in the Carl R. Reng Student Union, 101 N. Caraway Road.

The science fair gives recognition for outstanding science fair projects in various categories of science, math, and engineering. The top two winners of the entire science fair and their sponsoring teachers will be eligible to compete May 12-17 at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2013 in Phoenix, Ariz.

Travel, housing, and registration expenses for the two students and their sponsoring teachers attending the Intel ISEF will be paid for by the NEARSF, which is supported by the College of Sciences and Mathematics at ASU, and private monetary donations provided by business, charitable organizations, and members of the northeast Arkansas Community.

On March 8, students will be able to set up their science fair projects from 8-11 a.m. The check-in table for student projects will be outside Centennial Hall and exhibiting information regarding various academic programs at Arkansas State will be available in Centennial Hall. There will also be representatives from various departments and programs at ASU available that day for students, parents, and others to gather information about the university.

Exhibits will be closed to the public that afternoon from noon until 5:30 p.m. while judging takes place. The exhibits will reopen to the public and students from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m., when the award ceremony will begin in the Student Union auditorium. Dr. John Pratte, Dean of the College of Sciences and Mathematics, will officiate in the presentation of awards, as well as other presenters.
