JONESBORO – Automation Outfitters, a Jonesboro company that produces equipment and services for both residential and commercial automation, has established its second scholarship program at Arkansas State.
The company began its first scholarship at A-State last fall. Both awards are designated for outstanding engineering majors.
David Williamson and Greg Williamson operate the company, which they started in 2005. Their goal is to become the leader in the region's residential, commercial and industrial automation industry through extraordinary service to customers and exceptional product quality. They host engineering interns and have hired several A-State engineering alumni.
“For the second time in less than a year, our good friends at Automation Outfitters have stepped up and made another contribution to our engineering programs in the form of an endowed scholarship for electrical engineering," according to Dr. Paul Mixon, associate dean of engineering. "We value our partnership with them very much and we look forward to working with them in the future as we continue to grow our engineering programs.”
While both Williamsons support the university, Greg also is an alumnus with a bachelor's degree in computer science and a master's degree in business administration.
Full-time electrical engineering majors with at least 60 semester credit hours and a minimum 3.0 grade point average will be eligible to apply for the Automation Outfitters Scholarships.
Each of the scholarship programs will provide $1,000 per year until the funds reaches endowment level. Then, the annual award will be based on endowment earnings.
Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Engineering Scholarship Committee. The award can be renewed for a second year, provided the recipient maintains full-time status and a GPA of 3.0.
