Beck Center to Host 'Run to Remember' to Honor Veterans on Memorial Day Weekend
JONESBORO – The Beck Center for Veterans at Arkansas State University will host their second annual Run to Remember 5K on Memorial Day weekend.
“The primary objective is to pay tribute to our fallen military members and uphold their legacy within our community. Hosting events such as this is crucial for the Beck Center to emphasize the significance of Memorial Day and ensure that its essence resonates throughout our community,” said Johnathon Mullins, an Army veteran who works as a graduate student at the Beck Center.
The race will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, at Lt. Col. Frederick C. Turner Jr. Military Science Building.“We encourage all runners to choose a veteran who has died while in service to honor on their run. We will have a banner for runners to write their veterans' names on,” said Mullins.Attendees who are not participating in the race are encouraged to cheer on the participants and to help honor those who have been lost.“Last year, the sight of local veterans cheering on the runners as they completed their journey was profoundly moving,” Mullins added. “This demonstration of solidarity reinforces the bonds between veterans and the community, uniting us in honoring the sacrifices of those who served.”More than 100 people participated last year. This year, Mullins said their goal of 125 is achievable and will serve to allow the Beck Center to continue to help veterans.
“The Beck Center boasts a dedicated team composed of university employees, veterans and interns who diligently serve our local veteran community every day,” he said.The center provides several support programs including a food security initiative that caters to more than 25 families bi-weekly. They also help veterans who are seeking assistance with benefits and processing claims.Janus Research Group is the title sponsor the second year in a row. Stearns Race Management will be managing times, bibs, and will provide start and end points.
