Black History Month Observance Continues through Feb. 28

JONESBORO – The annual Black History Month observance at Arkansas State University continues through February with campus activities for students, faculty, staff and alumni.
The Black History Month keynote address will be "Hip Hop as a Tool for Social Activism," presented by rapper and record producer David Banner, Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. in Centennial Hall of the Reng Student Union.
Additional public Black History Month events during the remainder of February include:
- The Black Student Association (BSA) will celebrate its 49 years on the Arkansas State campus by sharing cake and punch, Monday, Feb. 19, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
- Gabriel Tait will present a lecture, "In Search of a Midwife: Changing Times," Tuesday, Feb. 20, 5-7 p.m., at ASU Museum auditorium. Admission is free.
- The BSA will host its annual formal event, "The All Black Affair," Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m., in Centennial Hall, Reng Student Union. Dancing, awards and a keynote speaker will be featured.
- A "Family Feud"-style contest hosted by the BSA will be Wednesday, Feb. 21, 6-9 p.m., in the Mockingbird Room of the Student Union. Teams will compete for prizes by naming the most popular responses to a survey question.
- A panel discussion on relationships between men and women will be hosted by the BSA Thursday, Feb. 22, from 6 until 8 p.m. in the White River Room of the Student Union.
- BSA members will conduct a community service event Friday, Feb. 23, 2-5 p.m. at A-State Childhood Services.
- Movie night will be hosted by BSA Friday, Feb. 23, 6-9 p.m., in room 1028 of the Humanities and Social Sciences Building.
- Student Government Association will host a "Dear A-State" panel discussion on race relations, 6-7 p.m. in the Black River Room of the Student Union.
- Omega Psi Phi fraternity will host a Jeopardy-type contest Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. in the Black River Room of the Student Union.
