Boston Trio to Give Concert and Master Classes, Feb. 23
JONESBORO – Arkansas State University's Lecture-Concert Series will feature the Boston Trio, Monday, Feb. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Fine Arts Center, 2412 Quapaw Way.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about chamber music performance and hear works performed by a very talented group of artists," commented Dr. Sarah Jones-Hayes, instructor in violin and viola and coordinator of strings in the Department of Music.
Prior to the concert, members of the trio will conduct three separate master classes, for pianists, for violinists and for cellists, beginning at 1 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center. Students and the general public are invited, according to Dr. Lauren Schack Clark, professor of music.
Admission is free to all events in the Lecture-Concert Series. This presentation is supported in part with generous funding from the Department of Music and College of Fine Arts, the Society of Composers, Inc., Chapter, and the Diversity Initiatives Program.
Violinist Irina Muresanu, cellist Astrid Schween, and pianist Heng-Jin Park each have distinguished careers as soloists, recitalists, and chamber musicians, and have appeared with major orchestras and premier chamber music festivals throughout the United States and Europe.
The individual members serve on the faculties of the New England Conservatory, the Boston Conservatory, Harvard University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. As a group, they are committed to bringing chamber music to a broader audience. Since its formation in 1997, the Boston Trio has been acclaimed for a superb sense of ensemble and balance.
Schween, who made her debut as soloist with the New York Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta, enjoys a varied concert career as a soloist and chamber artist. She has been soloist with major orchestras in Canada, US, and in Europe.
Muresanu, who has appeared as a soloist with the Boston Philharmonic, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and other top international orchestras, is the recipient of top prizes at the Montreal International Competition and the Queen Elizabeth Violin Competition.
Pianist Heng-Jin Park, who made her solo debut with the Boston Pops at the age of 15, is the founding member of the Boston Trio.
The group performs three 10-day concert tours throughout the United States each year, along with recording and international touring.
The Lecture-Concert Series brings notable guest speakers and performers of diverse backgrounds and wide appeal to the campus, according to Dr. Tim Crist, professor of music and chair of the Lecture-Concert Committee.
