Camfil APC Donates Engineering Scholarship Endowment
JONESBORO – Camfil APC of Jonesboro is announcing a major gift to Arkansas State University's College of Engineering.
Camfil, which manufactures pollution control equipment, has designated the gift toward establishing an endowment fund to support a full-tuition, renewable scholarship for an undergraduate mechanical or electrical engineering major.
The company is committed to giving $200,000 to the scholarship endowment over the next five years.
"We felt that we needed to step up, make a donation and be more involved with the College of Engineering," commented Tony Supine, plant manager for Camfil APC.
The company regularly employs engineering graduates from Arkansas State, and Supine happens to be one of them.
"I'm very happy to be a graduate and be able to give back, be part of a team, support Arkansas State, and particularly engineering," he added, while recalling his own positive experience with the A-State faculty. "They were willing to do whatever they had to do for you to learn and get the education that you were there to get. I myself found that the education in engineering prepared me for just about anything."
Dr. Paul Mixon, interim dean of the College of Engineering, expressed his appreciation for Camfil's leadership commitment and proactive investment in their workforce.
"I think it's extremely important for local industries that need engineers in their workforce to be involved with our College of Engineering for a variety of reasons, but I think the foremost reason is they're really investing in their own future work force," he said. "Camfil is really leading the way and has given us a tremendous kick start with our efforts to boost our industry interaction."
