Chamber of Commerce Begins A-State 'Paint the Town Red Week' Aug. 30
JONESBORO — The Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce will kick off the 24th annual Paint the Town Red week beginning Monday, Aug. 30. Festivities, hosted by the Arkansas State University Chamber Committee, will occur the week leading up to the first A-State home football game against the University of Central Arkansas on Saturday, Sept. 4.
Local businesses are encouraged to promote a “red item” in support of the A-State Red Wolves. Chamber businesses that sign up to participate will be featured on the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce Facebook page highlighting their red items on Monday, Aug. 30.
On Tuesday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m., Nettleton STEAM will host “Party with the Pack,” the annual grade-school pep rally led by the A-State Chamber Committee and A-State Spirit Squads. During this event, Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver will deliver a proclamation of the official week.
Along with promoting a red item, businesses are encouraged to participate in the decorating contest which includes painting exterior windows, decorating facility interior and/or creating a cheer, skit, or living outdoor scene to show pride and support for Arkansas State.
To sign-up, contact the Chamber office. “Celebrity Judging” of the entries will take place Wednesday, Sept. 1, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. led by Beth Damphousse, wife of A-State Chancellor Kelly Damphousse, and A-State athletics coaches’ wives.
“Order of the Pack” will be celebrated at Centennial Bank Stadium Thursday, Sept. 2, at 7:30 p.m. The A-State Chamber Committee will provide “swag bags” for student-athletes that evening. Chamber businesses that would like to donate 500 promotional items for the bags should contact the Chamber.
On Friday, Sept. 3, “Back the Pack Rally” will take place at the Embassy Suites, 223 Red Wolf Boulevard, in the southwest parking lot from 4 – 6 p.m. Community members are invited to attend the pep rally which features retail vendors, kids’ activities, food, music and more. A-State Spirit Squads, The Natural State Band, Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Bowen and Head Football Coach Butch Jones will lead the pep rally. Chamber businesses wanting to host a booth can contact the Chamber for purchasing and set-up details.
