College of Business To Present Next Alsey Distinguished Speaker
JONESBORO — James P. Gilligan, assistant treasurer for Great Plains Energy in Kansas City, Mo., is the next featured speaker for the Alsey Distinguished Speaker series by the College of Business at Arkansas State University. Gilligan will speak Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 25-26.
He will address College of Business classes both days as well as speak to members of Phi Beta Lambda, an on-campus organization that helps prepare students for careers in business and business-related fields. He will also attend a luncheon with several A-State business students Thursday.
In addition to serving as assistant treasurer for Great Plains Energy, Gilligan, a certified treasury professional and certified corporate financial planning and analysis professional, manages all cash management and corporate finance functions including debt/equity financing, rating agencies, investments and banking relationships.
Gilligan is a former member of the Association for Financial Professionals (AFP) board of directors and chair of the government relations committee. He is also a member of AFP’s body of knowledge committee for the certified treasury professional (CTP) exam. He testified before Congress concerning proposed changes in money market fund regulations and was quoted on the subject by Bloomberg, Global Finance and the Wall Street Journal.
He is a graduate of the University of Missouri where he earned both a bachelor of science degree of business administration and master of business administration degree in finance. He is a past president of the Kansas City AFP and a frequent national conference speaker.
The speaker series is supported by the Stella Horton Alsey and Howard Milton Alsey Endowment in the College of Business.
