College of Education and Behavioral Science Cites Top Graduates
JONESBORO -- The College of Education and Behavioral Science at Arkansas State University recognized 29 outstanding graduating students for 2014-15 during the college’s Convocation of Scholars awards ceremony, according to Dr. Susan Hanrahan, interim dean of the college.
The Chancellor’s Scholar award for highest overall grade point in the college was presented to Stephanie DeMent of Rector, who has a 4.0.
Four students -- Hannah Belew of McRae, Mollie Matthews of Jonesboro, Chelsea Patton of Jonesboro and Meagan Rush of Campbell, Missouri, -- received the 4.0 Graduate Award. When a tie occurs, the Chancellor's Scholar is the individual with the most credit hours.
The departmental awards are presented during Convocation of Scholars to the graduate in each degree program who has most excelled in scholarship, leadership and service to the department.

The six top graduates in the Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE), early childhood, program were Tammy Caples of Jonesboro, Kailey Hughes of Mountain Home, Meagan Rush of Campbell, Mo., Bethany Smart of Horseshoe Bend, Summer Smith of Salem and Alexa Zielinski of Blytheville.
The four top graduates of the BSE, middle level, program were Emily Barnes of Damascus, Hannah Belew of McRae, Stephanie DeMent of Rector and Chandler Gill of Paragould.
Graduate-level awards were presented to Linda F. Stuart of Boles, Master of Science in Education (MSE), special education instructional specialist P-4; Leigh Anna Askins of Sherwood, MSE, special education instructional specialist 4-12; Risa Smith of Iuka, Mississippi, Ed.S., educational leadership; Lisa Wilkins of Fayetteville, MSE, curriculum and instruction; and Lynne Little of Deerfield Beach, Florida, MSE, special education, gifted, talented and creative.
Department of Psychology and Counseling:
Honorees were Corey Green of Hot Springs, Bachelor of Science (BS), psychology; Mary Partlow of North Little Rock, BS, psychology; Blake Walker of Pocahontas, Master of Rehabilitation Counseling; Lindsay Rose of Pocahontas, Specialist in Education (Ed.S.), psychology and counseling, clinical mental health counseling track; and Krystal Newsom of Blytheville, MSE, school counseling. Amanda Blair of Searcy was named outstanding intern in the Specialist in Education (Ed.S.), psychology and counseling, school psychology track.
Department of Health, Physical Education and Sport Sciences:
Award recipients were Heaven Howard of Bono, BSE, physical education; London Abernathy of Bryant, BS, exercise science; Mallory Perry of Harrison, BS, sports management and business management; Shuntaro Kobayashi of Yamaguchi, Japan, BS, athletic training; and Kimberly Hendricks of Weiner, BS, health promotion.
Center for Excellence in Education:
Kimberly Crosby of Batesville, who is graduating with the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in educational leadership, was named recipient of the Dr. Eugene W. Smith Fellowship Award.
