Concert and Chamber Choirs to Feature Guest Choirs
JONESBORO – The Concert Choir and Chamber Singers will perform in concert Monday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Fowler Center's Riceland Hall at Arkansas State University. The Department of Music event also will include the Searcy, Riverview, and Beebe high school choirs as guest performers.
The A-State groups are conducted by Dr. Dale Miller, director of choral activities, and student conductor, Drew Warren. Brian Henkelmann serves as the collaborative pianist.
The Searcy choirs are conducted by Tina Niederbrach, Riverview by A-State alumna, Christy Fudge, and Beebe by A-State alumna, Amy Stevens Thomas. Each choir will sing two selections alone and all three will combine with the A-State choirs to present “Von ewiger liebe” by Brahms, “I Will Lift Mine Eyes” by Runestad, and “Great God A’mighty” by Stacey V. Gibbs.
"It is a pleasure to combine the A-State Choirs with these three fine high school choirs whose directors are wonderful advocates for Arkansas State University," Miller stated. "Amy Thomas was a member of the first choirs of my tenure at A-State, and Christy Fudge was a soloist in our first European tour in 2006. Tina Niederbrach, daughter-in-law of long-time music professor David Niederbrach and the parent of two of our A-State Concert Choir members, has been a frequent guest conductor in the A‑State Choir Camp. They are leaders in choral music in our state."
Concert Choir selections include the “Star-spangled Banner” arranged by Lloyd Pfautsch, “And the Glory of the Lord” and “His Yoke is Easy” from "Messiah" by Handel, and "Movement VI of Ein Deutsches Requiem" by Brahms, all directed by Miller. The choir also will perform “Esto les digo” by Kinley Lange under Warren's direction.
The Chamber Singers repertoire for the program includes “Grace My Lovely One, Fair Beauties” by Weelkes, “Rest, Sweet Nymphs” by Pilkington, “Matona, mia cara” by di Lasso, “Au jolie bois” by Tessier, “So ben mi ch’a bon tempo” by Vecchi, and “Noel Ayisyen” by Desamours.
Tickets are $5 per person, with age 12 and under free, and A-State students, faculty and staff will be admitted free with ID. Tickets may be purchased at the Central Box Office or by telephone at (870) 972‑2781. For more details, one may contact the Choral Office at (870) 972-3841.
