Concert Choir and Chamber Singers to Present Fall Concert

JONESBORO – The Department of Music at Arkansas State University will present the first choir concert of the fall semester on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Fowler Center’s Riceland Hall.
The groups are under the direction of Dr. Dale Miller, director of choral activities. Brian Henkelmann, instructor in music, will be the collaborative pianist.
This program will feature the A-State Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, as well as two guest choirs from the surrounding area. The guest choirs are Jonesboro High School Chamber Choir, directed by Krisie Holmes, and Valley View High School Chamber Choir, directed by Jo Arlene Brinkle. Each guest choir will sing two numbers.
The Chamber Singers repertoire will be “Pastime with Good Company” by King Henry VIII; “A Little Pretty Bonny Lass” by John Farmer; “Phyllis, Farewell” by Thomas Bateson; “Dainty Fine Sweet Nymph” by Thomas Morley; “O dolce anima mia” by Luca Marenzio; and “El Grillo” by Josquin des Prez.
Concert Choir repertoire will be “The Star-Spangled Banner,” arr. Lloyd Pfautsch; “Hallelujah” from "Mount Of Olives" by Ludwig van Beethoven; “Ask and It Shall Be Given” by Jonathan Adams; “Dulaman” by Michael McGlynn, featuring soloist Matthew Carey, professor of voice; “hope, faith, life, love” by Eric Whitacre, based on the poem of E.E. Cummings; “God Bless America” by Irving Berlin, arr. Mark Brymer; and “Daniel, Servant of the Lord” by Stacey V. Gibbs.
All the performing choirs will come together and sing music from this year’s All-State Choir repertoire. These pieces include “Pater Noster” by F. G. Calalang Jr. and “Tenting on the Old Campground” by Walter Kittridge, arr. Rene Clausen.
Admission is $5 for the public, and free for A-State students with their ID. Public and private school music teachers may contact Dr. Dale Miller regarding tickets for choir students. All ticket sale proceeds will benefit the choirs’ performances in Ireland in March 2017.
