Create@State to Showcase Student Research
JONESBORO – More than 270 undergraduate and graduate students at Arkansas State University will share their work when the eighth annual Create@State: A Symposium of Research, Scholarship and Creativity begins Monday, April 16.
The three-day event will be held at Fowler Center and the Reng Student Union on the A-State campus, with the theme being focused around the STEAM initiative, highlighting the integration of art and design with science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
Edwin Faughn, an artist and lecturer specializing in space sciences, will present the keynote address Tuesday, April 17, at noon in the Reng Student Union Auditorium. A 1998 graduate of Arkansas State, Faughn has presented hundreds of programs to universities, museums and schools, and has produced a tremendous amount of original artwork, animation, and computer graphics for space science magazines, planetarium and theatrical productions, exhibitions, newspapers, murals and books.
Student work will be showcased in six categories: Agriculture, Engineering & Technology, Business, Education & Behavioral Science, Liberal Arts & Communication, Nursing & Health Professions, and Sciences & Mathematics. Students will offer oral, poster and creative presentations throughout the symposium. Judges for the presentations will include leaders from local business, industry, foundations and A-State alumni.
“We are excited about the record number of more than 270 student presenters, as well as the support of the community and alumni that have generously invested their time and involvement in this year’s symposium,” said Emily Devereux, Executive Director of Research Development. “We also want to express our sincere gratitude for the first endowed Create@State awards, made possible by InfoReady, as well as the in-kind awards for student entrepreneurship made by Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC. “
Create@State 2018 is a collaborative effort of A-State’s Research and Technology Transfer office (RTT) and University Advancement. Members of the A-State Student Research Advisory Committee, made up of appointed faculty representatives from each college, along with the A-State Student Research Council’s research ambassadors and the A-State Student Philanthropy Council have been involved in organizing the symposium, which this year expanded to three days for the first time.
