Damphousse, Finalist for Chancellor, to Visit Campus May 10-11
JONESBORO – The third finalist candidate to become the next chancellor of Arkansas State University is visiting the campus in Jonesboro this week and formally interviewing for the position.
Dr. Kelly Damphousse, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oklahoma, is the third of the three candidates to visit.
He will be on campus Wednesday and Thursday, May 10-11, for a series of meetings with the 21-member Chancellor Search Advisory Committee and with other faculty, administrators, staff, students and community members. He also will tour the campus and the City of Jonesboro.
A community “meet and greet” for Damphousse will begin at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, in the Sun Belt Lounge of the Reng Student Union, followed immediately by an open forum beginning at 3:30 p.m. in the auditorium. The forum is open to everyone from the campus and the community, and will include a question and answer session. The presentation also will be streamed on the university website, AState.edu/livestream and Facebook/ArkansasState.
Damphousse has served as dean or interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oklahoma in Norman since 2013. The college is the university’s largest and most diverse with an annual budget of $100 million, 31 academic and research units offering 60 degrees, 1,000 full-time faculty and staff and more than 9,000 students. He was previously associate dean of the college for nine years. He has served as OU’s faculty athletics representative to the Big 12 Conference and NCAA since 2012.
He earned his Ph.D. and master's in sociology at Texas A&M University, and his bachelor degree in criminal justice at Sam Houston State University. His complete packet of application materials is available on the chancellor search finalists webpage.
Those in attendance at the various sessions will have an opportunity to submit feedback regarding each candidate to the Chancellor Search Advisory Committee. Following the final interview, the committee will meet to discuss the candidates and provide feedback to Dr. Charles L. Welch, president of the ASU System. Welch hopes to name a new chancellor by June 1.
