Dean Search Begins in Education and Behavioral Science
JONESBORO – The formal national search process for a dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Science is getting underway at Arkansas State University.
Dr. Lynita Cooksey, provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, has asked Dr. Don Bowyer, dean of the College of Fine Arts, and Jeff Bailey, director of the Dean B. Ellis Library, to co-chair the search committee.
She announced the search today in a message to faculty and staff of the college.
“This search is timely, especially with the many changes and uncertainty of K-12 education in the state,” Cooksey said. “We look forward to finding an individual who can continue to help A-State play a major role in preparing future teachers and school administrators as well as the other areas served by the college.”
She also said Dr. Gina Hogue, associate vice chancellor for academic services, will take on additional duties as interim dean of the college, effective July 1. Hogue succeeds Dr. Susan Hanrahan, who has served in the interim capacity for the past year.
"We thank Dr. Hanrahan for her outstanding leadership and service as dean during the past year," Cooksey said. “She will continue to provide administrative oversight for the departments of Health, Physical Education and Sports Sciences, and Psychology and Counseling, as it relates to individual program curriculums, accreditation and related topics.”
Hogue, a faculty member at A-State since 1990, also will continue her work in Academic Affairs and Research. Tenured as associate professor of history, Hogue has been part of the leadership of several academic initiatives at the university, including the First Year Experience Program that received the Apple Distinguished Program Award earlier this year.
"It is an honor to have the opportunity to serve as the interim dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Science," Hogue said. "While serving as the director of the secondary social studies teaching program in the Department of History from 1997-2013, I worked alongside many of the CoEBS faculty as colleagues in the Professional Education Unit. I look forward to renewing these relationships and supporting all of the faculty in the college while in this interim capacity."
Cooksey added the members of the search committee will be appointed as quickly as possible.
