Delta National Purchase Awards and Sponsorships Announced

01/25/2019

JONESBORO – The ever-popular Delta National Small Prints Exhibition (DNSPE) at Arkansas State University’s Bradbury Art Museum opened Thursday evening, with winning selections for purchase awards and sponsorships announced.

Delta National Small Prints Exhibition annually ". . . provides insight into what is happening in the world of small prints," according to Les Christensen, museum director.

The 2019 DNSPE juror was José Diaz, chief curator of The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh.  He selected the prints for inclusion in the exhibition and also determined which works would receive awards.  From the hundreds of entries, Diaz made these selections blindly, seeing only the title, medium and dimensions of each print, but not the artist's name or location.

"José selected an exhibition more focused than we have seen in years past.  Many social and political topics are addressed," Christensen said in her director's statement.  "His keen knowledge of printmaking and expertise in curating are evidenced in this thematically cohesive exhibition.  We thank him for his work and competence with this daunting task."

The DNSPE is made possible by many generous individuals and organizations who provide the financial and practical assistance necessary to produce the exhibition and catalog.  This year 14 prints were selected for purchase awards, which become part of A-State's permanent collection.  Additionally six prints received sponsorships which are juror’s merit awards.

"The acquisition of these prints is made possible by a number of generous individuals,” Christensen said.  “Their support has been critical to this show and invaluable to BAM."

A full-color catalog of the entire exhibition, which continues through Feb. 20, is available to visitors and the artists.
