Director in Facilities Management Receives APPA Pacesetter Award
David Handwork, director of planning, design, and construction in Facilities Management at Arkansas State University, recently received the Pacesetter Award from APPA, the international organization for professional managers of educational facilities, at the group’s annual conference in Denver.
This national award recognizes significant contributions to APPA among those who are engaged in leadership roles at the regional or chapter level.
Handwork has been an active leader with the APPA Code Advocacy Task Force, acting as a liaison with the ASHRAE (building technology society) code writing committee, writing articles for the APPA Facility Manager magazine, and presenting on code development trends in the area of energy conservation in heating and air conditioning systems at the APPA annual conference.
“This is truly a significant recognition and one that is well deserved,” according to Al Stoverink, assistant vice chancellor for facilities at ASU. “David has demonstrated over and over his extraordinary dedication to making ASU a better place and to enhancing his role in the continuous improvement of those in the higher education facilities management profession.”
Handwork, who joined the ASU staff in 2001, also is serving as second vice president for the Central APPA region, which includes Arkansas, Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, and the Canadian Province of Manitoba.
