Elsenbaumer, Finalist for Chancellor, to Visit Campus May 9-10
JONESBORO – Two finalist candidates to become the next chancellor of Arkansas State University are visiting the campus in Jonesboro this week and formally interviewing for the position.
Dr. Ronald Elsenbaumer, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs, University of Texas at Arlington, is the second of the three candidates to visit.
He will be on campus Tuesday and Wednesday, May 9-10, for a series of meetings with the 21-member Chancellor Search Advisory Committee and with other faculty, administrators, staff, students and community members. He also will tour the campus and the City of Jonesboro.
A "community meet and greet” for Elsenbaumer will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, in the Spring River Room of the Reng Student Union, followed immediately by an open forum beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
The forum is open to everyone from the campus and the community, and will include a question and answer session. The presentation also will be streamed on the university website, AState.edu/livestream and Facebook/ArkansasState.
Elsenbaumer has served as senior advisor to the president for entrepreneurship and economic development at the University of Texas at Arlington since last year. He is also serving as interim provost and vice president for academic affairs, the position he held for the previous four years. His 26-year career at UTA also includes positions such as vice president for research and federal relations, director of the nano-fabrication research and teaching facility, and chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
He earned his Ph.D. in chemistry at Stanford University, and his bachelor degree in chemistry at Purdue University. His complete packet of application materials is available on the chancellor search finalists webpage.
Those in attendance at the various sessions will have an opportunity to submit feedback regarding each candidate to the Chancellor Search Advisory Committee. Following the final interview, the committee will meet to discuss the candidates and provide feedback to Dr. Charles L. Welch, president of the ASU System. Welch hopes to name a new chancellor by June 1.
