Emeritus Registrar Commits Gift for College of Business Scholarship
JONESBORO – Emeritus registrar Leonard McDaniel has made a gift commitment to Arkansas State University’s College of Business for the Leonard and Mary Lou McDaniel College of Business Scholarship.
The inaugural scholarship will be presented at the fourth annual Women’s Business Leadership Conference, Thursday, March 29, at Centennial Hall in the Carl R. Reng Student Union.
Leonard graduated with a business education degree in 1959 and earned his master’s degree in 1967. He served as registrar at A-State before retiring with emeritus status. An A-State alumna with bachelor's and master's degrees, Mary Lou McDaniel was emeritus assistant dean of students. She served in the Division of Student Affairs from 1967 until her retirement in 1992, with one of her major roles being working with the sororities in the Greek Life program. She was also active in the Faculty Women's Club.
The McDaniels were inducted into the university’s Legacy Society in 2015 in recognition for their planned gifts to Arkansas State. In 2010, both were selected for the Staff Centennial Wall of Honor, recognizing 100 staff members who made significant contributions to Arkansas State in its first 100 years. Staff members chosen were required to have been employed by the university for at least 10 years, as well as making significant contributions to A-State.
“As graduates of the College of Business, Mary Lou and I had planned to support the scholarship program in the College of Business through our estate plan,” said McDaniel. “However, since events happened as they have, I decided to fund this scholarship at this time.”
