JONESBORO – An academically gifted individual who strives to assist fellow students at Arkansas State University has received a prestigious national award.
Ramsey Brower of West Plains, Mo., is the latest A-State student to win the Jordan Smith Undergraduate Student Fellowship through the First-Year Experience National Resource Center.
Brower, a junior mechanical engineering major, works as a tutor, learning group leader, and first-year community leader for engineering and computer science through A-State’s Learning Support Services.
“I have been surrounded by wonderful support that makes this all possible,” Brower commented in a note to associates. “I can’t thank you all and A-State enough.”
The award is only given to a handful of students across the country each year, according to Kelli Listenbee, director of Learning Support Services and coordinator of First-Year Experience. It is based on a student’s work with freshman students and the individual’s dedication to serving their institution presently and in future roles.
“The mission of Learning Support Services is to foster independent learning,” Listenbee added. “Ramsey works diligently to ensure that his students have the tools they need to be successful.
She added Brower is the second A-State recipient of this fellowship; Jadacee Glover of Tillar won the fellowship last year.
