Farm Sanctuary Leader in Lecture-Concert Series
JONESBORO – Gene Baur, president of Farm Sanctuary, will open the 2016-17 Lecture-Concert Series at Arkansas State University with an address to students, faculty and the public on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
His presentation will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the west facade of the Humanities and Social Sciences Building. In case of inclement weather, the alternate location is the auditorium, room 1028. Everyone is welcome; admission is free.
Baur, who also co-founded Farm Sanctuary, has been called “the conscience of the food movement.” He was a pioneer in undercover investigations and instrumental in passing the first U.S. laws to ban inhumane factory farming practices. For the past three decades, he has traveled extensively, campaigning to raise awareness about the abuses of animal agriculture and the cheap food system.
His latest book, "Living the Farm Sanctuary Life: The Ultimate Guide to Eating Mindfully, Living Longer, and Feeling Better Every Day," was published by Rodale in April 2015. Baur has a master’s degree in agricultural economics from Cornell University and is a faculty member at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
The Lecture-Concert Series serves Arkansas State and the surrounding communities by bringing notable guest speakers and performers of diverse backgrounds and wide appeal to the campus.
