First “The stAte Awards” is Today, April 29, Open to the Public
JONESBORO -- The Arkansas State Athletics Department will roll out the red carpet for its student-athletes Monday night when it holds the first annual “The stAte Awards,” honoring its senior class and the Red Wolves’ competitive and academic accomplishments from the 2012-13 seasons.
The event, open to the public and free of charge, will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a “red carpet walk” by the coaches and student-athletes at the Convocation Center’s lower red entrance. Fans wishing to attend the open-door event may enter through the upper red entrance, and seating will be available on the concourse level.
EAB Sports Radio Network personality Mickey Ryan, who will serve as Master of Ceremonies, will be broadcasting live from the arena floor and interviewing A-State players, coaches and administrators as they arrive on 95.3 FM The Ticket. A live video stream with audio from the event will also be available free of charge in the “State Zone” portion of the Red Wolves official Web site, astateredwolves.com.
Following a buffet dinner for the student-athletes and coaching staff, A-State Director of Athletics Terry Mohajir will kick off the celebration with welcoming comments at approximately 6:15 p.m. Additionally, highlight videos will be played, numerous honors will be awarded to the student-athletes and a “football ring ceremony” commemorating the Red Wolves’ 2012 Sun Belt Conference championship and GoDaddy.com Bowl victory will be held.
Among the many recognitions will be the presentation of the Terry Gwin Award and Scott and Kay Dawson Ambassador Award, two of the most prestigious honors an Arkansas State student-athlete can receive.
The Terry Gwin Award, named after former football player Terry Gwin, is based on leadership, citizenship, scholarship and athletic performance. The criteria for the Scott and Kay Dawson Award includes but is not limited to excellence in service, attitude, integrity, loyalty, character and leadership.
The evening will conclude when the head coaches and Mohajir recognize the seniors sport-by-sport for their commitment and contribution to Arkansas State University and Red Wolves Athletics throughout their career.
