JONESBORO – Arkansas State University’s Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive, teams up with the Arkansas Science Festival to present ArcAttack, the first of two events in its Family Friendly Series, on Friday, Oct. 3.

ArcAttack will perform two shows: a daytime show with extended science activities at 11 a.m., and an evening show at 7 p.m.

Fowler Center’s Family Friendly Series features affordable ticket prices and entertainment that appeals to younger audiences. This year is also the first year of the Arkansas Science Festival, with events occurring at Arkansas State University and around the state from mid-September through mid-October.

“When the leaders of the Arkansas Science Festival approached me to work together to bring in an exciting science-oriented performance, I started looking for a top-notch group,” says Dr. Wendy Hymes, director of Fowler Center. “ArcAttack was hands down our favorite because their show is just the kind of wacky entertainment that kids like, with lots of underlying science lessons throughout their show. ArcAttack makes learning about science irresistible.”

The crew of ArcAttack uses their high tech wizardry to generate a truly ‘electrifying’ performance including a robotic drum set, Singing Tesla Coils, and flashing bright-colored LEDs. The custom-engineered hand built Tesla Coils throw out electrical arcs up to 12 feet long, each one acting as an instrument with a sound reminiscent of the early days of the synthesizer.

In a show unlike anything students have ever seen, ArcAttack will take kids on an interactive journey of discovery learning the science behind the amazing show they see on stage. Students will learn about Nikola Tesla and his contributions to the birth of commercial electricity, discover Delia Derbyshire and how music and technology are related, and develop an understanding of machines and robotics.

This show meets National Science Education Standards and is geared towards students in grades 4-12.

ArcAttack was a semifinalist on Season 5 of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” Students will have a chance to talk to the cast of ArcAttack in a question and answer session and pursue their interest in physics, mathematics, chemistry and engineering. At the 11 a.m. show, students can also explore the Race for Planet X Mobile Museum provided by the Museum of Discovery in Little Rock, Arkansas, as well as participate in a nano-technology game show.

All seating is reserved. Tickets for the Family Friendly Series are $8 for children and seniors, and $10 for adults. For additional discounts for schools and groups of 15 or more, contact Hymes at Fowler Center, whymes@astate.edu or (870) 972-3471.
