Fowler Center to Present 'Riders' and 'Barrage' next month

01/18/2018

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University’s Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive, will present two performances in February:  "Riders in the Sky" on Thursday, Feb. 8, and "Barrage: The Next Generation" on Saturday, Feb. 24.  Both shows begin at 7:30 p.m.

Riders in the Sky, Feb. 8

For more than 30 years, Riders in the Sky have been keepers of the flame passed on by the Sons of the Pioneers, Gene Autry and Roy Rogers, reviving and revitalizing the genre.  “Over the years, Riders in the Sky has entertained audiences with their unique interpretation of Western music,“ according to Dr. Michael Bowman, director of Fowler Center. “Audiences of all ages will enjoy their performance.”

While remaining true to the integrity of Western music, they have themselves become modern-day icons by branding the genre with their own legendary wacky humor and way-out Western wit, and all along encouraging buckaroos and buckarettes to live life “The Cowboy Way.”

Riders in the Sky are exceptional not just in the sense that the group's music is of superlative standards (they are the only exclusively Western artists to have won a Grammy, and Riders have won two), but by the fact that their accomplishments are an exception to the rule as well.  Riders in the Sky’s music and comedy delights cowboys and cowgirls of all ages. “It’s going to be a fun show that the whole family will enjoy,” said Bowman.

Barrage: The Next Generation, Feb. 24

The Barrage creative team under the direction of Dean Marshall has created a new show that brings together the best of the past and the future in a unique Barrage presentation.  Alumni from various Barrage casts will combine with select youth string programs into a singular cast that celebrates the best in dynamic string music performance.

Barrage: The Next Generation performance also features the performers as soloists, in trios and other engaging collaborations.  The elaborately choreographed show includes whirling dancing set to infectious rhythms, engaging songs and virtuosic playing that energizes audiences from start to finish.  It’s going to be a high energy program,” Bowman continued.

All seating is reserved. Individual tickets are $35 and $25 for adults, and $28 and $20 for senior citizens, students, and A-State faculty and staff, and $15 and $10 for A-State students with a current ID. Group discounts are available for groups of 15 or more.
