Friends, Family, Graduates Celebrate A-State Summer Commencement
Graduates at 2023 Summer Commencement
JONESBORO – Arkansas State University held its 2023 Summer Commencement ceremony this morning at First National Bank Arena. The ceremony was attended by friends, family, and A-State faculty and staff members who helped graduates on the way to this achievement.“Commencement is a special time of accomplishment,” said Chancellor Todd Shields. “I have no doubt that all of you worked extraordinarily hard to get here today, overcoming life’s challenges while balancing your studies with other responsibilities.”Shields conferred degrees upon graduates from eight colleges including Agriculture, Neil Griffin College of Business, Education and Behavioral Science, Engineering and Computer Science, Liberal Arts and Communication, Nursing and Health Professions, Sciences and Mathematics, and University College. Graduates received doctoral, specialist, master, bachelor and associate degrees, along with program certificates.Caitlyn Fincher of Dyess served as the guest speaker representing more than 900 graduates.“We have received an excellent education and are prepared for the next step of our journey. As we graduate from college, we have achieved a major milestone in the journey of our lives, one that should be recognized for its immeasurable significance,” said Fincher.“All the relentless hours of studying, stress and tears have finally paid off. Our strong will, determination, and perseverance have allowed us to overcome obstacles that we faced along the way.”
Fincher graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science from the College of Education and Behavioral Science."Whether your college career is ending today, or you are preparing for a board exam, beginning graduate school, or searching for your dream job, be persistent in your pursuit of greatness,” Fincher encouraged as she continued to share her thoughts on the future with fellow graduates. “Keep achieving your goals and chasing your dreams. If you are true to yourself and follow your passions, nothing can stop you from pursuing your dreams.”
