Greenfield Lecture to feature Historian and Filmmaker Kenneth S. Greenberg in Lecture-Concert Series, Oct. 25
JONESBORO – Historian and filmmaker Kenneth S. Greenberg will present the Corinne Sternheimer Greenfield Lecture as part of the 2012-13 Lecture-Concert Series at Arkansas State University on Thursday, Oct. 25, announced Dr. Tim Crist, chair of the Lecture-Concert Committee.
Dr. Greenberg will make a presentation on "The Nat Turner Slave Rebellion in History and Film."
The lecture will start at 7 p.m. in the Spring River Room of the Carl R. Reng Student Union, 101 N. Caraway Road. Admission is free to all Lecture-Concert Series events.
This presentation is funded by Drs. Rosalee and Raymond Weiss of Teaneck, N. J., through an endowment supporting the annual Corinne Sternheimer Greenfield Lecture in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The lecture endowment was established in memory of Dr. Rosalee Weiss’s mother, who was born into a prominent Jonesboro family in the early 20th century.
Kenneth S. Greenberg is dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and Distinguished Professor of History at Suffolk University in Boston, where he joined the faculty in 1978.
He is the author of a number of books about American slavery, including “Honor and Slavery: Lies, Duels, Noses, Masks, Dressing as a Woman, Gifts, Strangers, Humanitarianism, Death, Slave Rebellions, the Proslavery Argument, Baseball, Hunting, and Gambling in the Old South”; “Nat Turner: A Slave Rebellion in History and Memory”; “The Confessions of Nat Turner”; and “Masters and Statesmen: The Political Culture of American Slavery.”
He also is co-producer and co-writer of the film, “Nat Turner: A Troublesome Property,” nationally screened on PBS.
The Lecture-Concert Series serves Arkansas State University and the surrounding communities by bringing notable guest speakers and performers of diverse backgrounds and wide appeal to the ASU campus, according to Dr. Crist.
