Guest Artist Galit Kaunitz, Oboist, to Perform Friday
JONESBORO – The Department of Music at Arkansas State University will present a guest artist recital Friday, Oct. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall. Admission is free.
This recital, by Galit Kaunitz, oboe, and Ellen Elder, piano, explores music by Jewish composers from diverse backgrounds. Austrian Hans Gál, Moravian Pavel Haas, and Indian American Simon Sargon led varied, remarkable, and extraordinary lives.
Kaunitz is assistant professor of oboe at the University of Southern Mississippi, joining the faculty in 2015. Galit is also co-host and co-creator of "Double Reed Dish," a podcast created specifically for oboists and bassoonists.
She earned her D.M. from Florida State University, M.M. from the University of Texas, and B.M. from the Hartt School of Music.
Elder is assistant professor of piano at Southern Miss, where she teaches applied piano to graduate and undergraduate piano majors, and teaches piano pedagogy and class piano.
She holds the D.M.A. in piano pedagogy and performance and the M.M. in piano performance and literature from the University of Michigan. She received her B.M. in piano performance from Southern Miss.
