01/28/2016

JONESBORO – The Arkansas State University Department of Music will host a concert by guest composer and pianist Phillip Schroeder and violinist Margaret Jones. The concert will be Monday, Feb. 1, at the Fowler Center, Riceland Hall, at 7:30 p.m.

The concert, which includes music for violin, piano and electronics, is free and open to the public.

"It's always a pleasure to hear the music of other Delta composers, as their music reflects experiences similar to own," stated Dr. Tim Crist, professor of music.  "Experiences that we can connect with deeply and which help us to discover common ground among us all. Phillip's music is wonderful, imaginative, and very enjoyable."

Schroeder has appeared as a guest composer, lecturer, and performer throughout the United States and Europe.  His music appears on the Innova, Cold Blue Music, Albany, Ravello/Capstone, Boston Records, and Vienna Modern Masters labels. Schroeder teaches at Henderson State University.

Jones has enjoyed a diverse career as a concert violinist and currently performs with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, freelances, and teaches privately. She was a founding member of the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, performed with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, and as Concertmaster of the Danville, Ill., Symphony Orchestra.

Jones has toured with Mikhail Baryshnikov (White Oak Dance Project), The Lion King, Andy Williams, Perry Como, and Natalie Cole, and has worked on Broadway (Peter Pan), with the American Ballet Theatre, and the Opera Orchestra of New York.
