Hemingway in Comics Exhibit Opens Friday at A-State Museum
JONESBORO – A special exhibit featuring the likeness of Ernest Hemingway will be available from Sept. 1 through Oct. 20 at the Arkansas State University Museum. The exhibit is open 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on weekdays and on Saturdays.
This exhibit is held in partnership with the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Education Center, an A-State Heritage Site.“Hemingway in Comics,” provides a unique and entertaining look at the American novelist. The exhibition allows visitors to view the author through themes that explore his origin story as well as his persona, both fact and fiction.Hemingway was a regular visitor to Piggott alongside his second wife, Pauline Pfeiffer, at what is now known as the Hemingway Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center.
The works of various artists will be featured in the exhibit, curated by Robert K. Elder. The creativity displayed by the illustrators allows the comic version of Hemingway to appear with various icons.The comics displayed in the show display parts of the author’s life, using his history-rich stories to create an animated version of him.Periods of time showcased include places Hemingway experienced including Paris in the 1920s, Spain during the Spanish Civil War, Cuba on the brink of revolution, and France after its liberation following World War II.Having lived an adventurous life, Hemingway serves as a good character for the project. The comics to be featured allow visitors to consider why Hemingway is so fascinating and why his legend is so enduring.
The exhibition will feature artists Cliff Chiang, John McCrea, Steve Rolston, Chris Ware and others.
This exhibition is toured by ExhibitsUSA, the national touring exhibition program of Mid-America Arts Alliance.
