Hemingway-Pfeiffer Drop-in Tours Suspended for Week
PIGGOTT – Drop-in tours at the Hemingway-Pfeiffer house in Piggott have been suspended for the week of Dec. 10-18 due to the COVID-19 virus, Arkansas State University Heritage Sites director Dr. Adam Long announced. However, individual tours remain available by reservation by calling 870-598-3487.
Long also noted that the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center (HPMEC) will be closed for the holidays from Dec. 19, 2020 until Jan. 3, 2021.
Reservations for tours are limited to eight guests and must be made in advance. Visitors over age 10 are required to wear a face covering throughout the tour.
The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center in Piggott includes a barn studio associated with Ernest Hemingway and the family home of his second wife, Pauline Pfeiffer. Pauline’s parents, Paul and Mary Pfeiffer, were prominent citizens of Northeast Arkansas and owned more than 60,000 acres of land.
During the 1930s the barn was converted to a studio to give Hemingway privacy for writing while visiting Piggott. Portions of one of his most famous novels, A Farewell to Arms, and several short stories were written in this studio.
