Hemingway-Pfeiffer’s Papa’s Upland Bird Hunt Set for Feb. 23
PIGGOTT - The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center (HPMEC) in Piggott will host its annual Papa’s Upland Bird Hunt, Saturday, Feb. 23, at Liberty Hill Outfitters in Rector.
The hunt celebrates Pulitzer Prize-winning author Ernest Hemingway’s hunting legacy in Northeast Arkansas. Proceeds will benefit the museum.

Hemingway, a 1953 Pulitzer and 1954 Nobel prize winner, was a regular visitor at his in-laws, the Pfeiffer family of Piggott and the parents of wife Pauline Pfeiffer. While there, he wrote portions of one of his most famous novels, “A Farewell to Arms,” and several short stories. One of his favorite pastimes during his visits was quail hunting on Crowley’s Ridge.
The museum is sharing this legacy with the public with Papa’s Upland Bird Hunt. Hunters will enjoy a half-day of continental-style bird hunting. Stations for two hunters are available for $1,000. Spots are limited, so those interested in participating should sign up soon.

HPMEC is an Arkansas State University Heritage Site at 1021 W. Cherry Street, Piggott. Tours are on the hour Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
