'How People Make Things' is coming to ASU Museum
JONESBORO – Arkansas State University Museum’s newest exhibit, "How People Make Things," will be on display from Saturday, Oct. 8, until April 8, 2017.
Inspired by the Mister Rogers' Neighborhood factory tours, this exhibit enables visitors to interactively experience four manufacturing processes — molding, die-cutting, deforming and assembly. These hands-on activities offer guests the opportunity to use real factory tools and machines to create interesting items.
The "How People Make Things" work day might begin in the exhibit’s main office, where visitors may don hats and boots, then leave for work. Visitors may use a die-cutter to make boxes and paper doll horses, operate a three-axis mill to carve a block of wax, assemble parts of a real golf cart, or assemble a toy version of the signature trolley from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.
"How People Make Things" also features videos from the Mister Rogers' Neighborhood television series that depict the making of crayons, carousel horses, balls, traffic lights, quarters, shoes, toy cars and toy wagons.
This traveling exhibit is sponsored by the Arkansas Discovery Network, which is funded by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. Its stay at ASU Museum has been made possible by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
ASU Museum’s opening hours are Monday and Wednesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
