HPMEC Announces Plans for Fall Writers’ Retreat
PIGGOTT –The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum & Educational Center (HPMEC) in Piggott will hold its Fall 2016 Writers’ Retreat, Monday through Friday, Nov. 7-11. The retreat will be held in the Educational Center and the Hemingway Barn-Studio and will offer writers the opportunity to work under the direction of a professional mentor.
The deadline for registration and the retreat cost of $200 is by Friday, Oct. 28. The cost is $225 thereafter. Lunch and breaks are included. Andrea Hollander, who will serve as mentor for the retreat, is the author of four full-length poetry collections: “Landscape with Female Figure: New & Selected Poems,” a finalist for the Oregon Book Award; “Woman in the Painting”; “The Other Life”; and “House Without a Dreamer,” which won the Nicholas Roerich Poetry Prize.
Other honors include an Oregon Literary Fellowship, two Pushcart Prizes (in poetry and prose memoir), the D. H. Lawrence Fellowship, the Runes Poetry Prize, two poetry fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and two from the Arkansas Arts Council. Her poems and essays have appeared in numerous anthologies, college textbooks and literary journals.
For 22 years, she served as writer-in-residence at Lyon College, where she was awarded the Lamar Williamson Prize for Excellence in Teaching. She lives in Portland, Ore., where she teaches workshops at the Attic Institute and Mountain Writers Series. Her website is www.andreahollander.net.
Writers’ retreats are structured to be interactive with group activities along with private writing time and mentoring. Writers contribute stories, poems and essays to be published on-site in a spiral-bound souvenir anthology for each participant.
