Hunt, Mello Endow College of Business Scholarship
JONESBORO — Dr. Shane Hunt, dean of the Arkansas State University College of Business, and Dr. John Mello, professor of supply chain management at A-State, have funded the Hunt-Mello Textbook Scholarship for business students at the university.
The two faculty members have donated portions of sales across the country and throughout the world of a textbook the pair co-authored in 2014 titled, “Marketing.” The book was written to demonstrate to students around the world the connection between marketing and their future careers, whether students choose to pursue a major in marketing or another field. The textbook was adopted by colleges and universities across the country, and includes an interactive tablet-based edition.
Hunt said the endowed scholarships will be awarded to multiple scholarship winners each year in the College of Business.
“Our incredible students at Arkansas State University were the inspiration for us to write the book, and we are both very thankful we can help in providing these additional scholarships for our students,” stated Hunt.
Requirements for the scholarship are the recipients must have a major in the College of Business, a minimum 2.75 grade point average and must have completed a minimum of 75 hours toward a degree. Financial need is also a consideration.
“I am delighted to be partnering with Dr. Hunt in providing our deserving students with this scholarship,” added Mello. “I can think of no better way to ensure that our students achieve all of their potential than to give them the financial means they need to receive a college education from this fine institution.”
Hunt received his Ph.D. in marketing from Oklahoma State University where he was an American Marketing Association Sheth Foundation and National Conference in Sales Management Doctoral Fellow. He is the recipient of the 2010 National Inspire Integrity Award from the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the 2010 Lt. Col. Barney Smith Award as Professor of the Year at Arkansas State.
Mello, who received the College of Business award for excellence in research in 2015, received his Ph.D. in logistics from the University of Tennessee. He is a well-respected educator at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and is the recipient of the 2012 Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award from the Arkansas State’s College of Business. Prior to completing his Ph.D., Mello spent 28 years in the consumer packaged goods industry in a variety of positions at Unilever and Playtex Products. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Central Connecticut State University and master’s degrees from the University of New Haven and Wilmington College.
